We’re talking about a lot of land here. So much land that it’s unlikely you’d ever find a use for all of it if you bought it. In fact, most of the time when you see a property this large it’s intended for large-scale ranching or farming. As you’ll see, it’s more than enough land to build a small city on, and while 1.56 square miles may not sound like that much, it covers so much ground that it’s almost impossible to actually visualize. One acre is 1/640 of a mile. So, in one square mile, there are 640 acres. That makes an acre seem quite small, but for most people it’s actually a pretty big chunk of land.
So, 1000 acres is more than one square mile. In short, it’s a lot of land. It’s 43,560,000 square feet. That’s huge. So huge, in fact, that it's quite hard to visualize just how big it is. Here are some comparisons to help you understand just how big 1000 acres of land is.
One acre is about ¾ of a football field, if you include the endzones. So, you can fit about 1 and ⅓ of an acre into a football field. So, from one end zone to the opposite 20 yard line is one acre.
10 acres is 7.5 football fields:
That means that 100 acres is 75 football fields, and 1000 acres covers an incredible 750 football fields.
One acre holds about 156 parking spaces:
So, 1000 acres would hold 156,000 parking spaces.
For tennis players, an acre will hold 15 tennis courts:
10 acres, therefore, holds 150 tennis courts.
And 1000 acres? That’s 15,000 tennis courts.
One of the best ways to understand how big 1000 acres is, is to see how many houses it will hold. One acre can fit 18 2400 square foot homes, with a bit of room to spare:

As you can see, 1000 acres is actually a pretty sizeable portion of land. 2400 square feet is a large house, somewhat bigger than the average American home, which is about 2300 square feet as of 2019.
So, if you buy a 1000 acres of land, you’ve got space to build yourself a small city! Or a huge ranch, or several luxurious mansions. You could even build yourself a theme park.
Of course, if you’re buying 1000 acres of land and you aren’t using it for ranching, you’re probably planning to develop it and sell it. You can even divide 1000 acres into multiple, very large, ranches to sell separately.
